Here’s what /u/Jikook97 has to say about it:
I know it's just part of Stan twitter lingo but literally everyone "deserves" something (good and bad) but a collab, an award, a bigger fanbase is a privledge not a right. It irks me to see so many people of varying fandoms repeatedly say "she/he/they have done xyz an worked SOOOO hard they DESERVE this" 🙄🙄🙄 I suppose every other artist has just been sitting there twittering their thumbs I guess???.
Notable events I've gleaned recently –
"BTS deserve a GRAMMY nomination" i love me some BTS but the GRAMMYS are literally the top dog…they are wildly popular American Artists who've been grinding hard for years and they've never even gotten close to Grammy level. BTS do not deserve it just because we want it for them. I want good things for them but I'm not gonna sit here and throw a tantrum and complain about how hard they've worked when every Artist thirsting for that nom has been busting their butts to get recognition- BTS aren't special just because we love them. If it happens for them then it happens for them but no one "deserves" an award. You earn it.
"Got7 deserves more recognition because of how hard they work" I wish they got more love too but again- everyone works hard. they aren't owed stardom just because they're busting their chops. (If you haven't given them a listen though I highly recommend them 😉)
Alternatively "my fav doesn't deserve this" is pretty dumb too. I've seen it used from situations as serious as an idol receiving backlash for publically participating in blackface/innapropriate behavior to an idol catching a common cold 🙄. "My idol DOESNT deserve this" implies that you feel someone else does. Who exactly do you feel "deserves" it then?? 🤔🤔
